Familiarize Yourself
with Disneyland

Disneyland opened July 15, 1955, one year and one day after the groundbreaking. The dedication plaque beneath the flag pole in Town Square reads "Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, dreams, and hard facts that have created America...with the hopes that it will become a source of joy and inspiration for all the world."

Disneyland was Walt Disney's dream for a place that an entire family could enjoy together. His dream has been realized and continues to make the dreams of children and adults alike come true some 53 years later.

Before attending Disneyland and reading through the advice on this site, it's important to orient yourself with Disneyland's layout. Disneyland is laid out like wheel with the lands radiating out like the spokes from Central Plaza (otherwise known as The Hub). You'll know you are in Central Plaza when you see the tall Walt Disney statue. Because this spot is so easy to find and at the center of the park, it is a great place to establish as a meeting spot if your party gets lost.

The park can then be separated into the west and east sides. Tomorrowland is on the east side and Adventureland, Frontierland, and Critter Country are on the west.

The Mickey and Friends Parking Structure is located off of Disney Drive.  For more information on parking, refer to the Parking section of the site.

Disneyland is open year round. Hours and available attractions vary, so never assume you'll be able to do it all. As part of the Disneyland Resort, guests can also enjoy the three Disney-owned hotels, Downtown Disney, and Disney's California Adventure park.
