The Disneyland Lexicon
To know Disneyland is to know its lexicon. Disneyland's unique vocabulary allows its guests and employees to leave the outside world and become completely submerged into the Disney mystique and culture.
Cast Member
All Disneyland employees are called Cast Members.
Guest
Anyone who visits Disneyland.
The Hub
Central Plaza is also known as the “Hub” of Disneyland. All of Disneyland’s lands radiate out from this point like the spokes on a wheel.
Costume
Any Cast Member's "uniform," whether they sell popcorn or dress as Mickey Mouse, is a costume.
Guest Control
Cast Members who keep the flow of guests moving. (You'll see them with long waving flashlights.
Backstage / Onstage
Disneyland operation is a daily show production. The parts of Disneyland visited by guests are the "onstage" sections of Disneyland. The parts of Disneyland you don't see are called backstage.
The West Side and The East Side
Disneyland is roughly split down the middle with two "sides." Fantasyland and Tomorrowland are considered the "east side" of the park and Adventureland, New Orleans Square, Frontierland, and Critter Country make up the "west side" of the park.
Off Property vs. On Property
This typically refers to hotels and restaurants. Services and lodging offered on the Disneyland Resort property are "on property." Some area hotels with agreements with Disneyland are often also called "good neighbor hotels."
101
When anything is broken or inoperable at Disneyland, it is 101.
